Alvine started dancing at the age of 15 years with K-pop. He explored Hip Hop and Bboying with his Secondary School Dance Club, and intensive dance training in his tertiary school with UCS (Urban Central Statements) & WSD (West Styles District) in genres like Locking, Popping, Waacking, Reggae, Dance hall and Urban dance.

Alvine was often inspired by dance films and participated as a main dancer in films like Sinaran. This interest was even extended into the realms of music videos in the Bollywood industry. This was when he decided to spearhead a dance film project named “Love Theo 2022”. He served as its co-producer/production manager, under the production company Weekend Playhouse.

Another professional practice Alvine performs is as a fitness trainer who conducts weekly HPB Quick HIIT Program for the general public. His beliefs in Dance and Fitness includes imparting the right techniques, forms and movements to his students is essential to reducing injuries and building strong physiques.

An advocate of nurturing Life Values via dance, helping dancers improve both internal and external aspects of life, dance, and fitness is his way of everyday balance.

With the heart of wanting to give back to the society and educate the next generation of what he had learnt, Alvine brings with him more than a decade of teaching experience and is with Joyful Steps part-time teaching faculty. His mission is to continue to inspire students to excel in their dance learning journey, enjoys the process and simply be their best self!

Chloe started ballet training since the age of 3 and have completed Advanced Vocational training with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), UK. A passionate teacher and versatile dancer, Miss Chloe also studies modern jazz and lyrical dance with the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) where she has obtained certificates from Grade 3 to Grade 7.

Miss Chloe has experience teaching students aged 3 to 14 years and have prepared students for both RAD examinations as well as regional and international competitions. She has choreographed numerous competition pieces for classical ballet and lyrical performances for solos, duets, trios, and group routines. These competitions platforms included Get the Beat Asia, Asian Arts festival, International Arts Festivals and Singapore International Dance Competition. She has recently choreographed a showcase of up to 150 dancers.

Chloe is well-liked by her students and injects much fun and creativity in the classroom. She designs engaging and structured lessons for toddlers under the age of 4, utilizing various ballet techniques to enhance their musicality, coordination, creativity, and strength – essential elements for their development. With a deep passion for dance, Chloe is detail-oriented and patient, dedicated to nurturing young dancers and helping them achieve their full potential.

Esene is a Registered Teacher with RAD holding the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies and an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance (ARAD). She has completed both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) syllabi and is a veteran in the industry with teaching experiences from toddlers ballet up to Vocational Ballet Advanced 2 level.

Esene also has over twenty years of performing experience in Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore in various dance productions and has also choreographed numerous dance items. As a trained Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) Instructor, Esene is a passionate and dedicated teacher of dance who is committed to Continuing Professional Development, keeping her abreast latest dance developments. Esene’s knowledge in the Gyrotonic method also assists her in dance teaching, addressing energy pathways in improving strength and movement efficiency in dancers. She aspires to encourage ballet dance as a part of healthy lifestyle as well as to condition the body and to discover the beauty of it.

Apart from dance, Esene is also trained in Music Theory and Pianoforte under The Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accountancy).

Jaime started ballet at the age of 4 at the Priscilla Ballet Academy in Penang and is trained in classical ballet, tap and jazz.

A versatile performer, Jaime has danced in productions of ‘The Nutcracker’, ’It’s A Small World’, ’Aseanika’, ’An Enchanted Evening of a Dance’ and ‘A Night at The Theatre’. Her operetta appearances as a dancer includes ‘The Merry Widow’, ‘The Land of Smiles’, ‘Carmen’, and ‘La Traviata’.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business Administration and in 2003, she completed her postgraduates studies in The Teaching of English (TESOL) from Macquarie University, Sydney. While in Australia, Jaime was trained in classical ballet under Hilary Kaplan who is a dual ballet examiner with the Royal Academy of Dance (London).

Jaime is a registered teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), London and has taught musical theatre and classical ballet at Priscilla Ballet Academy in Penang, Malaysia for 6 years. She has since re-located to SIngapore and is now a permanent resident in Singapore. She has been a resident Classical Ballet Mistress with Joyful Steps since 2010.

Kania Dwitiyana has been actively dancing since the age of 5, exploring a wide spectrum of genres including classical ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, and traditional Indonesian dance. She studied both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), UK as well as Comdance (formerly known as CSTD) ballet syllabi which demonstrated her commitment to technical excellence and versatility.

Professionally, Kania has danced with various dance companies and participated in numerous performances and competitions on both local and international stages. She brings a wealth of performance experience into her teaching, having guided classical ballet students aged 6 to 18.

Kania is also an accomplished choreographer who has created pieces for performances for both competitive and non-competitive settings. Her choreographic works reflect her deep artistic sensibility and structured approach to storytelling through movement.

A dedicated mother of two daughters, Kania embodies the spirit of continuous learning and passion. She is a detail-oriented and nurturing educator who strives to instill a strong foundation in dance while spreading the joy of movement to all her students; deepening their love for the art of dance.

Livia is a Resident RAD Registered Ballet Teacher at Joyful Steps. She has more than 9 years of teaching experience and has abundant of experience in sending students for competitions, direct school admissions (DSA) and auditions, often winning awards and entering the schools of their choice.

Livia has also completed the Bachelors (Hons) in Dance Education (BADE) at the Certificate level with the RAD, UK. She is a motivated individual who pushes her limits and strives to achieve deeper understanding in dance. Her pursuit for excellence translated to Distinctions in Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examinations and placing for competitions in her teens ballet years.

She is passionate about teaching ballet and believes in working with parents for the good of her students and see that older dancers have an inspiring and safe dance experience, be taught discipline and good ballet foundation that will last them their whole life. Melissa Tan began her first dance lesson at the tender age of 3. She grew to love dance through the years of dancing and performing. Apart from being trained in Classical Ballet (RAD), Melissa is also trained in Tap and Jazz (ATODi). She has been part of our teaching faculty for the past 15 years.

As a performer, Melissa has danced in both local and overseas productions. Some of her key achievements are ‘Takashimaya Women’s Day’, ‘President’s Challenge Dance-a-ton’, ‘Just Dance’ at Victoria Theatre, ‘Chingay: Parade of Dreams’, ‘Passion Card’ Launch, ‘Arts Form the Heart’, ‘Celebrate Dance an Annual Dance Performance’, and ‘ Pambroadbent Academy 30th Anniversary’ – Melbourne.

After graduating with a Degree in Communications, she realized that she enjoyed imparting her knowledge of dance with others. Melissa eventually went on to pursue dancing under the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and obtained her registered teacher qualification in 2003.

Melissa has taught an array of levels of the RAD Children’s Syllabus – up to Vocational Graded levels. All of which obtained 100% passes and averaging 70% distinctions. Melissa believes in constant selfimprovement and development to keep abreast through teachers development courses/workshops and has further obtained the RAD BA (HONS) Dance Education.

Royce began her dance journey with a strong foundation in Chinese Dance and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance Performance from the Shanghai Film Academy. A versatile and dynamic instructor, Miss Royce also has experience in ballet-based body conditioning, cheerleading, jump rope, and yoga, which she incorporates into her classes to enhance strength, agility, and performance readiness. She holds multiple professional certifications, including the China Dancers Association Teaching Certificate, and is trained in the Beijing Dance Academy syllabus for Children’s Chinese Dance.

Miss Royce has taught a wide range of students and is an MOE-registered CCA instructor in Singapore. She brings years of experience not only as an educator but also as the founder and operator of a dance training center, with a strong background in student management, curriculum planning, and performance preparation.

Known for her nurturing approach and effective communication, Royce fosters a classroom environment that is both structured and inspiring. Her goal is to share the beauty and storytelling power of Chinese dance with students of all ages, guiding them to express themselves with confidence and artistry.

Sabrina Lim

Sabrina started ballet lessons at a young age of 6 and completed all levels of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), U.K. graded examinations under the tutelage of Tay Hee Ngerng, and Kee Keng Hwen for her major examinations, for which, she achieved a Distinction for her Advanced 1 examination.

Besides ballet, she went on to explore other dance genres which included Chinese, Japanese and Modern dances. She is also an experienced peer and has peered at many schools and national events. Sabrina believes in giving her best to her students. She aspires to be a teacher who not only imparts knowledge, but also nurture them to be great individuals. As a RAD Registered Teacher, she continues to upgrade herself yearly through continuing professional dance courses and is now pursuing a dance degree programme with the RAD. Sabrina joined our part time teaching faculty in 2016.

Simone Lee began her training in ballet with Ms Alice Lee when she was 4 years old. She peered in various commercial dance shows and dance events – including On The Verge 1999, Changay 2005, 5th Asia Pacific Dance Competition (CSTD) 2003 and Dance Festival 2006.

She graduated with a Diploma in Dance from LaSalle, College of the Arts in 2007 and holds a Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies from the RAD. She is interested to learn different dances and loves watching dance appearances especially during the annual Arts and Dance Festival.

She is passionate about teaching ballet and believes that pre-school dancers should have a fun and safe environment and be able to explore with movements, rhythm and techniques.

She believes in working with parents for the good of her students and that older dancers should have an inspiring and safe dance experience, be taught discipline and good ballet foundation that will last them their whole life. Ms Lee has been teaching ballet to young children since 2007. She has also been pre-school teacher for 4.5 years before dedicating her time fully to teach ballet.
